Welcome to 22nd Nuclear Inter Jura Congress 2016The 22nd bi-annual INLA Congress coming for the first time to India is a proud moment for the Nuclear Law Association, India (NLA). NLA is a relatively new organization established by a group of lawyers, with an intent to engage the legal community and civil society as well as the nuclear establishment on important nuclear law developments in India. India’s civilian nuclear energy programme has a long history dating back to 1948. It is almost unparalleled in a democratic developing world - which weathered nuclear sanctions for 34 years - to have as many as 21 operating nuclear power plants, while also pursuing a variety of reactor technologies, contributing to international programmes, having an impeccable non-proliferation record, and achieving world-class scientific research in nuclear medicine, agriculture, and related fields.
The 2005 India-United States Civil Nuclear Cooperation paved the way for India’s re-entry in the global nuclear community. This has opened Indian civilian nuclear industry for international business. At the same time civil society now has a unique opportunity to constructively engage with the Indian nuclear establishment and the international community as India moves forward with its major nuclear energy expansion programme.
NLA believes the INLA Congress in New Delhi creates an excellent platform for members of the legal fraternity from across the globe, all NLA members and INLA members, to interact and share views on key contemporary developments in the nuclear legal field, while also being apprised about all facets of India’s vast civil nuclear energy program and future opportunities. We’ve put together a 5-day program which reflects these developments, with topical panel discussions and esteemed Speakers from around the world.
We welcome you warmly to India, to experience the diversity of India in its all colours!
